Sandals' Whitehouse Reopens on Jamaica's South Shore

Sandals Whitehouse European Village & Spa reopened following four months of upgrades and renovations to the Luxury Included resort, on pace with original estimates set in August by Gordon “Butch” Stewart, chairman and founder of Sandals Resorts.

The renovations to the resort further enhance the Luxury Included experience. Following the project, changes to the resort property included upgrades to soft goods and furnishings throughout the property and renovations to all resort restaurants, the main lobby area and treatment rooms at the resort’s exclusive Red Lane Spa.

The top two categories of suites -- the One-Bedroom Penthouse Honeymoon Beachfront Suite and the One-Bedroom Walkout Honeymoon Beachfront Suite -- were completely refurbished, adding updated furniture, upgraded soft goods and new plasma TVs, offering an enhanced setting for resort guests.

In addition, debuting with the reopening, guests of Sandals Whitehouse will be the first to experience Neptune’s, a new Mediterranean-themed dining concept. Created by Sandals Resorts International, Neptune’s offers Mediterranean cuisine with such dishes as a traditional meze of marinated olives, feta lamb kebabs and tzatkiki to saffron-infused bouillibasse.

Neptune’s will be located in the former Arizona Restaurant and there are plans to expand the concept to other Sandals Resorts in the New Year.

Recently named one of the top hotels in the Caribbean by Travel + Leisure’s World’s Best Awards, Sandals Whitehouse is set within a 500-acre nature reserve on Jamaica’s undiscovered south coast. The resort features three seaside villages -- French, Italian and Dutch with piazzas and Mediterranean cuisine as well as pastry shops and European-inspired architecture. The 50-acre resort has 360 rooms and suites in nine categories all of which have beachfront views; eight restaurants and six bars; the largest freshwater pool in Jamaica; and a European-style square complete with duty-free shops, formal gardens, a piazza and cafes.

As with all Sandals Resorts Luxury Included vacations, a trip to Sandals Whitehouse includes butler service in select room categories; gourmet dining; unlimited premium brand wine and spirits; championship golf; and a wide array of watersports, including snorkeling and scuba diving. Guest of Sandals Whitehouse can also take advantage of savings of up to 65 percent off rack rates through select dates in 2010 when they book a minimum three-night stay by Jan. 7.

Kensington Tours Debuts Caribbean Catamaran Cruises

Kensington Tours added five Caribbean catamaran cruise itineraries to its portfolio.

Itineraries – all eight days long – include: The Bahamas – the Abaco Islands, including Great Guana Cay and Man-O-War Cay, and quaint towns such as Treasure Cay and Hope Town; French West Indies and Dutch Antilles – St. Martin, St. Barts, Anguilla, and the deserted islands of Prickly Pear Cay; Mayan Riviera and Yucatan – Mayan ruins, the lifestyle of Isla Mujeres, Cancun, and the beaches and natural parks of Contoy; St. Vincent and the Grenadines – Mustique, Bequia, Tobago Cays and Mayreau Island; and British Virgin Islands – Virgin Gorda, Jost Van Dyke, Anegada, Peter Island and Norman Island.

Each program features snorkeling along spectacular reefs, swimming, pristine (and in some cases secluded) beaches, picturesque views, and magnificent underwater marine life.

Scuba diving is an optional excursion that can be added upon request. All programs can be customized to suit the individual tastes, interests and budgets of a specific traveler.

All of Kensington's Caribbean cruises use Lagoon 440 catamarans with luxury accommodations for up to eight guests.

Providing ample privacy, comfort and storage space, each cabin features a queen-size berth with individual reading lamps, hanging closet, drawers, cupboards, and a bathroom with toilet, vanity, sink, medicine cabinet and shower/faucet.

Internet is limited to certain locations and not available in all destinations. Travelers can book a single stateroom and enjoy the company of two or three other adult couples, reserve all the cabins for family and friends, or charter the entire catamaran "just for two" for the ultimate private escape.

All sailing is done during the day; catamarans are anchored at night in protected coves and bays to assure a restful night's sleep. An experienced captain and professional hostess/chef, who focus on delivering optimum quality, comfort and service, accompany each trip.

Chefs spend weeks preparing a top-class menu to present the guests so they can dine in style while sailing the Caribbean. Rates for the Caribbean catamaran cruises start at $2,391 per person, based on double occupancy, and are dependent upon the specific itinerary and travel dates.

Kensington Tours offers custom private-guided tours to over 80 countries around the world.

Island Breeze Travel of Michigan is an authorized agent for Kensington Tours.

Hard Rock International and Palace Resorts said it has agreed to bring the world's first “ultimate all-inclusive” Hard Rock Hotel & Casino to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.

Slated to be re-branded in spring 2010, the 1,800-room Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Punta Cana will combine the atmosphere and guest experience of the Hard Rock brand together with the five-star Moon Palace Resort all-inclusive experience.

Hard Rock Punta Cana’s 121-acre property is located on Macao Beach, one of the most beautiful in the Caribbean overlooking the easternmost tip of the Dominican Republic. The property will combine Hard Rock's signature “Rock Star” suites with Moon Palace Resort's all-inclusive luxury accommodations, including double Jacuzzis and double showers. The property also will feature an extensive collection of Hard Rock's authentic music memorabilia, highlighting both international and local artists, as well as incorporating diverse music genres throughout.

“We're eager to bring the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino brand to the Dominican Republic, and we look forward to establishing this property as a premier vacation and gaming destination in the Caribbean,” said Hamish Dodds, president and CEO of Hard Rock International. “Our collaboration with Palace Resorts and their track record of creating the best all-inclusive resorts in the Americas, we are confident this project will be a success.”

“We are very excited to develop the new Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Punta Cana,” said Roberto Chapur, president of Palace Resorts, owners of Moon Palace. “Hard Rock has brought excitement to many destinations throughout the world and we are thrilled that the brand has chosen the Dominican Republic for its next project. We look forward to working with Hard Rock to create the most exciting hotel and casino concept in the Caribbean.”

Hard Rock Punta Cana will feature one of the largest casinos in the Caribbean with more than 48,000 square feet of gaming space. The casino plans to offer a high-limit poker room, a VIP lounge and a Race and Sports Book, in addition to 457 slots and 40 tables, where guests can try their hand at traditional Las Vegas-style gaming, including Baccarat, Black Jack, Craps and Roulette.

The property will be fully equipped to handle the largest events, from full-sized rock ‘n’ roll performances, to small groups. Hard Rock Punta Cana will feature more than 65,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor meeting and event space, equipped with state-of-the-art technology. Cancun Airport Unveils New Runway, Control Tower Project

Island Breeze Travel of Michigan, a Certified Cancun Counselor, is happy to announce that the Cancun International Airport is unveiling its $67 million dollar investment, a second runway infrastructure project including the construction of an additional runway, entirely new control tower and taxiway bridge.

The airport's capacity will increase to be able to serve some 28 million passengers per year. The destination experiences a yearly increase in visitors.

In 2009, five airlines added Cancun to their flight schedules while other airlines, including American and Alaska Airlines, provide exceptionally low fares, creating demand for such an investment to accommodate visitors, especially during season.

Cancun's International Airport will become Mexico's first to have the capacity to handle simultaneous takeoffs and landings on two runways.

The control tower, more than 315 feet tall, will be among the 20 tallest in the world, allowing improved efficiency in runway-use time assigned to aircrafts, beneficial to both passengers and almost the 150 domestic and international airlines.

Carnival Cruise Lines Takes Delivery of 130,000-Ton Carnival Dream

Carnival Cruise Lines officially took delivery of its newest and largest ship, the 130,000-ton Carnival Dream, during a traditional maritime handover ceremony at the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy, on Sept. 18.

Following the ceremony, Carnival Dream steamed off toward Rome (Civitavecchia), Italy, for its inaugural cruise, a 12-day "Grand Mediterranean" voyage departing Sept. 21, the first of three voyages within the region. Carnival Dream will then reposition to Port Canaveral for one nine-day voyage Dec. 3 before launching year-round seven-day Caribbean service Dec. 12.

Representing a new class of vessel for the line, the 3,646-passenger Carnival Dream offers innovations such as Ocean Plaza, an indoor/outdoor cafe and live music venue; The Lanai, an outdoor area featuring a wrap-around promenade and cantilevered whirlpools suspended over the ship's side; new accommodation categories, including two-bath, five-berth staterooms that appeal to families and cove balcony cabins located closer to the water line; a Carnival WaterWorks aqua park with the longest water slide at sea; and a 23,750-square-foot Cloud 9 Spa, the largest in the fleet.

New entertainment choices include a comedy club offering 24 performances per voyage and outdoor laser shows on Lido Deck. Also new is the "Fun Hub," an intranet portal and shipboard social network that provides information on the vessel and allows guests to interact and connect on board.

Dining options include two formal restaurants; the Lido-area eatery featuring a 24-hour pizzeria, Indian tandoori and new Italian pasta bar; a steakhouse serving USDA prime dry-aged beef; a sushi bar; a patisserie; and complimentary 24-hour stateroom service.

SANDALS RESORTS “NO WORRY GUARANTEE” ALLOWS TRAVELERS TO BOOK WITH CONFIDENCE

Insurance Priced at $99 per Adult and $79 per Child Grants Travelers Full Cash Refund in the Event of A Layoff.

MIAMI (May 1, 2009) – Unique Vacations Inc., the worldwide representative of Sandals Resorts, Beaches Resorts, The Royal Plantation Collection, and Grand Pineapple Beach Resorts, today announced the “Sandals Resorts No Worry Guarantee,” an added benefit to the company’s optional insurance policy, which grants guests a full cash refund on their vacation should they be involuntary terminated from their jobs.

Beginning May 1, 2009, when guests purchase the Trip Mate Travel Protection Plan for $99 per adult and $79 per child, they will now have expanded coverage that includes the Sandals Resorts No Worry Guarantee, offering protection on travel to all four resort brands’ properties in Jamaica, St. Lucia, Antigua, The Bahamas and the Turks & Caicos.

“Today’s workforce is struggling with a very tough market, and an unpredictable economic climate offers little reassurance,” said Kevin Froemming, president of Unique Vacations, Inc.

“It is worrisome for many to book a vacation not knowing what the future holds. Through this expanded coverage, travelers can feel confident about making vacation plans, while still safeguarding their investment should life circumstances change.”

With the Sandals Resorts No Worry Guarantee, guests receive a full cash refund on the land portion of their vacation if they have been laid off from their jobs 30 days following their effective date of coverage.

To be eligible, travelers must have also been continuously employed with the same employer for two years prior to involuntary termination of job. Travelers can purchase the Trip Mate Travel Protection Plan, which includes the Sandals Resorts No Worry Guarantee, Cancel for Any Reason Waiver, and also protects against trip interruption and other unexpected events after departure, at the time of booking. For details, please visit http://www.sandals.com/.

*Not applicable for temporary employment, independent contracts or self-employed persons. Sandals Resorts No Worry Guarantee covers land-only portion of reservation. Travel Protection Plan must be purchased within seven days of initial reservation.

At Island Breeze Travel, we fully recommend Sandals Resorts and Beaches Resorts. Having vacationed at Sandals several times, we are fully aware of the value that these resorts offer compared to other resort chains.

Then, after working up an appetite, they can dig in at one of Grand Lido Braco’s many restaurants, including Piacere, which serves nouvelle cuisine by candlelight, Munasan, which offers innovative Japanese fare with a sushi bar and Teppanyaki stations, and Reggae Café, favored for its local delicacies like jerk chicken.

Adventure buffs and sports enthusiasts can hit the turquoise waters for a complimentary private windsurfing lesson, or sign up for resort scuba diving certification for an additional $75, while landlubbers can improve their game at the resort’s nine-hole golf course with personalized instruction by the resident golf instructor.

And, with no greens fees, the group can practice their swing and play as much as they’d like. Beyond the resort, island escapades abound and those looking to explore can take advantage of the package’s two-for-one Chukka Caribbean Adventures voucher for canopy, horseback or tubing excursions, redeemable at the resort tour desk.

Real Resorts in Mexico - Health and Safety Initiatives

CANCUN, MX – Real Resorts, a privately owned luxury hotel company in Mexico, is leading the campaign to create a ‘super’ hygienic atmosphere for guests at its resorts in Cancun and the Riviera Maya.

Each of the four Real Resorts is working with local authorities and area hotels to create a ‘sanitary barrier.’ Within this barrier there is intensified and ongoing cleaning with sanitizing products in all hotels, buses, taxis, restaurants, bars, and airports in addition to the other measures already taken by the Mexican government to contain the further spread of the flu virus.

In addition, at each of the Real Resort Properties -- THE ROYAL in Cancun, Gran Caribe Real in Cancun, and THE ROYAL Playa del Carmen and Gran Porto Real in Playa del Carmen -- the company has incorporated further precautions to provide a safe environment. One additional guest service is the placement of sanitizing hand lotion around the hotels for staff and guest use, as well as adding hand sanitizing lotion as a guest room amenity.

“We consistently make cleanliness, hygiene and guest health our top priority whether or not there is public attention to these issues,” said Fernando Garcia, General Director, Real Resorts. “During this period of heightened awareness we will continue our diligence and increase as many practical measures as possible to help prevent the spread of any illness through human contact.

Of course, we understand that during this initial timeframe there may be some guests who prefer to postpone their trip and that is why we are offering them an opportunity to rebook their holiday for a later date,” added Garcia.

Real Resorts is offering guests booked for travel now through May 10th the choice of rebooking their travel for any future date through December 23, 2009, honoring the same rate of their original booking. Or guests booked through May 10th may also elect to cancel their stay without a penalty.

“We are encouraged by yesterday’s report in the Los Angeles Times that indicates that as the strain of flu impacting Mexico and the U.S. runs its course, it appears to be a more mild strain of influenza than originally anticipated,” adds Garcia. If this report proves to be accurate, we are assured that visitors will soon be returning to Mexico to enjoy their summer holidays with confidence of having a healthy and fun vacation.”

Real Resorts will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide further information as developments occur in the coming weeks. For additional updates Real Resorts provides an online Safety Information web page at www.RealResorts.com/safetyupdate.

Simple Methods That Can Save You Hundreds On Your Next Airline Ticket

Recently, I had a customer that wanted me to find flight tickets for himself and 4 other family members to go to Orlando for spring break.

No problem I said.

I found tickets at a very good rate, but the customer waited until the next day to call me back and book the flights. As you can imagine, the price increased and the customer was less than happy.

Some points to consider when booking airfare:Search for the best rates from Tuesday at midnight through Wednesday evening. Airlines tend to release the new rates, sales, and additional flights in to inventory on Tuesday beginning at 0001 in the morning.

This is not the absolute rule, but you will see some of the airlines introduce sales and add new flights during this time. Often times, other airlines will make comparable offers to stay competitive.

Don't book travel Thursday or through the weekend.

The airlines understand the principles of supply and demand better than anybody. The airlines also understand most people who work full time jobs simply do not have the time to research flights during the week but they do have more discretionary time close to and on the weekends.

Many people simply head to the web, find a flight, and book it!!

The problem is booking during this time period can be significantly higher in price.

I recommend that people do their own research and verify this theory.

How to land the cheapest flight by day of the week.

Fly on Tuesdays, Wednesday's, and Saturdays.Generally, these days tend to be lower in passenger numbers flying so the adage supply and demand will work in your favor on these days.

All of these tips are general in nature. For a more accurate picture of your particular situation I recommend that you take the approach of a travel agent and test, test, and re-test the airline rates.

If you don't have time for that kind of detailed research, call a travel agent and remember, you deserve a decent rate on your flight.

Happy Travels.....Mark
